Not only does it make me happy, it is also something I absolutely LOVE doing.
I love working with kids. I love hearing and seeing their brilliance every day. I love the way they can break my heart, the way they make me proud, how they can make me laugh, and the way they can change how I think. I can't imagine another job as fulfilling is one where I can work with children.
I think the intermediate students are still my favourites. There is something about the 12 to 14 year olds. They are not quite children, not fully teenagers. They are at this amazing stage of such brilliance and potential.
There are so many stories, situations, personalities that I experience every day. Every day a million little things make me happy with the 500 kids I get to see and work with...and I'm not even a teacher. I work in the office and the mix of what my job entails and why I am doing this job fill me with perfection.
Today was a day where no matter what I was doing another student flooded my heart with emotion. And it reminded me about how happy I have been since the day I first walked into the school.
I write about happy things every day, but this is something that makes me happy...every day!

My great aunt Feef was a wonderful, happy and slightly eccentric woman. We called her Feef, others Freda, and others had other names for her, as she was loved by many under many names, but her real name was Dorothy. I recall that she had old calendars where every box for everyday was full...she would write something happy that had occurred that day into each box...and I would like to follow in her footsteps with this blog.

Family
I received an email from a relative overseas yesterday and have just finished replying to it. It was just a quick message and a slightly longer reply, but the short communication warmed my heart and made me very happy. Not just for this one piece of communication, but for the love of family.
I love family, I especially love my family. You can go months without speaking, but they are so easy to pick up with from where you left off, whether it was last week or last year.
I am blessed to have such wonderful relations, whether immediate, extended or in-laws. I am grateful to be surrounded by so many loving, intelligent and wonderful people that I get to call family.
To all of my relatives; in Canada, in the US and across the pond. I love you all very dearly and hope to see you all soon!

Life, the Universe, and Everything
Nope, I'm not talking about a Douglas Adams novel...I'm talking about the power, depth and joy that comes from an 8 hour discussion with one of my oldest and closest friends.
On Saturday night I stayed up until past the wee hours of the morning on Sunday having a heartfelt conversation with a friend with whom in the past few years I haven't spent much time.
We opened our minds and our hearts. We talked about things that meant a great deal to us, we challenged each other, we supported each other and I know I said things I haven't thought about in a long time.
We talked about love, family, friends, life and God. We both opened our hearts and connected on a spiritual level. I saw a side of my friend that I knew existed but had never had the pleasure of being a part.
I thank her for opening my heart and my head. And I thank God, the Universe and Everything :)
