Chocolate Bananas

Two weekends ago my in-laws were in town. Unfortunately Ian forgot to mention to his mother that I am no longer eating dairy (or at least until further notice), so I had to fend for myself for dinner as she had pre-prepared homemade mac'n'cheese. No worries...I made out with a giant salad full of tons of veggies and topped with homemade vinaigrette and lots of quinoa for protein.

But it was dessert that made me sad...a yummy looking concoction of chocolate and cream...what to do? I had nothing in the house for dessert...or did I?

I had some bananas and chocolate chips (semi-sweet with no milk)...surely I could make a dessert with this? And sure enough with a couple of taps on my epicurious app...I found a quick and easy recipe for chocolate covered bananas.

The reason this made me happy today? Because I still have some left...so I had one when we got in this evening and it was fabulously delicious! I can't believe how well they keep! :)

I still have a couple more and I also look forward to making them again in the future :)

Really Soft Pillows

When my back was acting up we invested in some super-duper-expensive-memory-foam pillows. They are great pillows, but now that my back is on the mend we've brought out the yummy-mushy-marshmallow-soft pillows.

They're wonderful and smooshy and they just feel fantastic, like a giant hug for my head.

These lovely pockets of fluff were a wedding present from my singing teacher. They were my guest pillows until tonight...Now they're my dream-makers.

G'night all...enjoy your pillows!

Gettin'er Done!

We've had a hugely productive weekend and although I am quite tired, it feels good to have so much done.

We have so much going on right now and so much that we're preparing for and getting a chunk of things done makes the path ahead much smoother, not to mention the coming week.

We spent half of our time this weekend looking at tile and counters, bathroom fixtures and design ideas. We've picked out most of our choices with a couple more decisions yet to make. 2 hours on Friday night and then at least 5 hours on Saturday was spent going from stores to showrooms making decisions. And we love what we've chosen so far.

Friday night between running around and dinner (all u can eat sushi...yummy) I also had a 2 hour rehearsal.

Saturday night we went to a trivia night fundraiser with my family and had a blast (lots of wedding talk with my sister-in-law-to-be, between rounds....funnnnnnnnn) :)

Today was scrub the house day. We are hoping to book a last minute trip to leave next weekend and we didn't want to leave the house in the state it was this morning!

When we woke up this morning we also had a foot of snow to clear and a service call to put into our furnace guy because we had no heat. So in between cleaning and shoveling (done by my wonderful husband) we also kept a roaring fire going in the fireplace.

Great news the broken part has been replaced, covered by our service contract and we have heat again!

Then this afternoon Ian did his homework, while I finished up the 6 loads of laundry we were doing while also putting in a good 4 hours on the school newsletter. Then in the evening while I was still working on the newsletter, Ian cooked a wonderful meal.

This week we have to try and book a trip leaving Sarurday, purchase at least half of the renovation materials, get through a ton of work at work, go to a family dinner and a rehearsal...and I can't wait for it all!

With the weekend I've had I'm looking forward to this wonderful week ahead! :)

Yoga Cat

When I was at home all last summer (yay school board job), I took to doing quite a bit of yoga at home. I have a lovely shag carpet and a good amount of space in my living room, and I would do it there, in front of the huge windows in front of my garden and all of the wonderful natural light.

Occassionally my cat would see me on the floor and the usually standoffish lady would try and get all snuggly with me and stretch and roll around me on the carpet, like she too was doing her own kitty yoga,

Since I've started visiting my physiotherapist I have exercises to do at night. Tonight as I lay on the floor stretching and strengthening before bed, down she came to join me.

She makes me smile...my little yoga kitty. :)

This one's for you Fanny-cat! :)

Chee Cha Puffs

So...in addition to the fabulous Pop Rocks yesterday I was really at the Bulk Barn to pick up my new most favourite and loved snacks! They are only 2 Weight Watchers PointPlus points for 2 cups...which is FANTASTIC. A whole bag is only 7 points (whereas 30 chips is way more than that!). AND...most exciting of exciting...they have Tomato Ketchup flavour.

I mean...Hellllllooooooo-oooooo? That's only my favourite flavour in the whole world. Yes...seriously! I LOVE Ketchup chips, popcorn and now Chee Cha Puffs. They're kind of fabulous.

I feel healthy just by eating them. I feel better because I know I'm not hunkering down with my hand in a bag of chips. They're lovely...and you can get gluten free too. :)

Anywho...I'm in love with my Chee Cha Puffs. So when you're wondering what I'm doing in the evenings (other than blogging of course)...just know that whatever I'm doing, I now have a bowl full of Chee Cha Puffs to munch on while I'm doing it!

Pop Rocks!

Yup! The 80s have returned...in Candy form...and it tastes...sparkly! :)

It was a long day today, which rolled into a longer evening. I was getting ready to go pick up Ian at the airport after my Weight Watchers meeting and stopped at the Bulk Barn on the way.

As I picked up a couple of things, at the cash I saw the colourful packages and I knew that it was just the thing to cheer me up, to brighten my day. So I found my favourite flavour (strawberry) and tossed them in with the rest of my packages.

I waited until Ian got in the car and I made him drive, so that I could shake some into my hand and lick them off.

AWESOME! All sparkly and poppy...like miniature fire crackers in my mouth.

They were exactly what I needed. Having a rough day? Feeling a little blue? Grab some Pop Rocks and you just can't feel down with a candy party in your mouth! :)

Rehearsal

I'm rehearsing for a bunch of things right now, a contemporary opera at the end of March, a musical theatre fundraiser/competition and an opera vocal competition.

Tonight we rehearsed for the second one, Showtunes Showdown which is held annually and organized by Tone Cluster. I'm a member of the Orpheus Musical Theatre team.

It felt like a great rehearsal tonight. The numbers are coming together slowly but surely. And I recorded a couple of our songs and they sound pretty awesome.

There is still a ton more work on learning the harmonies, but they sound like we know what we're doing, which is a nice accomplishment.

I love the learning and the rehearsal process...it makes me want to audition for a full show again. I just worry that I'd be taking on too much.

More to come regarding the rehearsing, performances and competitions :)
